    The Senior Community Engagement Analyst position exists to help the Raleigh Fire Department perform various tasks designed to produce, promote, manage, implement, and coordinate communication, public relations, marketing, social media outreach, and recruitment activities. 

    Under the general direction of the Professional Development Chief:

    • Plan, develop, coordinate, and administer the city-wide community engagement programs for the Raleigh Fire Department
    • Implement and assess strategic goals and objectives to reach optimum results in the media and the community
    • Develop content for the Department's digital media platforms, websites, social media, and media releases, and assist in the maintenance, design, and operations of these platforms
    • Participate as a member of the City of Raleigh Economic and Social Advancement Team

    The Fire Department Senior Community Engagement Analyst is a non-sworn position within the Raleigh Fire Department, reporting to the Professional Development Chief. 

    Work Hours:
    This position is expected to work Monday - Friday, 8 hours daily. The incumbent may be required to work evenings, nights and weekends as needed.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

    • Community Engagement
      • Develops, implements, and maintains city-wide community engagement plans and programs to increase public awareness and educational programs using various creative promotional and marketing techniques
      • Develops and maintains effective working relationships with the media, public, community groups, and other agencies through cooperative and timely communications about public issues related to fire and emergency services
      • Designs, oversees, and implements community-based outreach and engagement efforts involving coordination of multiple divisions, outside agencies, and community groups
      • Compiles and analyzes data to assess costs, operational feasibility, and other aspects of the Department's community engagement programs
    • Recruitment
      • Plans and implements an overall recruitment program to source, educate and hire candidates for the Raleigh Fire Department
      • Coordinates student internships for the Raleigh Fire Department to expose youth to potential careers
      • Coordinates the Raleigh Fire Department’s recruitment and retention team to attract, hire, and retain highly qualified candidates from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. 
    • Communications
      • Develops, directs, and implements procedures, standards, and guidelines for collecting, reviewing, and presenting information to the public and the media
      • Coordinates and manages media and community projects, activities, and events
      • Develops content for the Department's digital media platforms, social media, and media releases and assists in the maintenance, design, and operations of these platforms
      • Develops and maintains professional relationships with representatives from local media outlets

    Typical Qualifications

    Education and Experience:

    Bachelor's Degree in Public Policy, Sociology, Business Administration, Communications, or related field; 3 to 5 years' experience in communications, marketing, advertising, program management, policy work, or a related field
    OR
    Any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted

    Licenses and Certifications:

    • Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire

    ADA and Other Requirements:

    Work Environment and Physical Effort:
    Sedentary: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, a negligible amount of force frequently, and/or constantly having to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.

    Work Environment:
    Work is typically performed in an office or similar indoor environment. Employees may occasionally work in an outdoor environment and/or in a vehicle.

    Working Exposures:
    Work in this position does not require frequent environmental exposures.
