Colfax Fire Department seeks an Assistant Fire Chief to become an integral part of the fire department’s leadership team. The successful applicant must be proficient at transforming a strategic vision into reality through detailed planning, delegating tasks, ensuring project execution, and being accountable for results.
Description of department
Colfax Fire Department is a combination, career and volunteer department located on the western edge of Guilford County. The department provides fire suppression and prevention, medical, light rescue and hazardous materials response within our fire district and contracts for first due coverage, within the City of Greensboro and the Town of Kernersville.
Position summary description
Under the direction of the Fire Chief, the Assistant Chief provides daily leadership and will direct, manage, supervise, and coordinate the activities and operations of the Fire Department. This position is responsible for supervising activities relating to fire suppression, fire prevention, medical and hazardous material responses. This position is responsible for coordinating assigned activities with other departments, and outside agencies along with providing highly responsible administrative support to the Fire Chief.
Desirable Education/Training/Experience
Associates degree from an accredited college or university preferred. Major course work should be in fire science, fire administration, business, public administration, or a related field.
Experience
Extensive firefighting and supervisory experience required with a minimum of (10) years’ service, with at least (2) two years at Captain level or equivalent.
Required Certifications
Firefighter 2 Certification.
Fire Officer 2 Certification or above.
Fire Instructor Level 2
Haz-Mat Operations
Emergency Vehicle Driver Certification
Emergency Medical Technician
NIMS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700 and 800
NC Class B driver’s license
The successful candidate must complete a medical (NFPA 1582 & OSHA 1910 guidelines) and physical evaluation prior to employment. Within (6) six months of hire the Assistant Chief, must establish and maintain permanent residency within (10) ten road miles of the Colfax fire district.
Salary Range
$48,000 to $70,300 Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications and includes a comprehensive benefit package.
