We have used portable speed bumps for a few years, it's standard practice to put them out on all roads that we are working on or near. They make a big difference and does slow traffic down, we have two highways that are heavily traveled and higher speeds.

We use them here at Fairview VFD in Buncombe County.  I ran across another department who used them. I purchased a couple to try out.  They worked so well we purchased a set for each of our first out apparatus. We also use them when our personnel are performing hydrant maintenance.  At first I was skeptical of how they would hold up after heavy equipment or trucks run over them a few times but we have been using them right at two years and we have never had to replace any due to damage. It help our traffic related incidents tremendously and our law enforcement have made positive comments as well. We highly reccomend them.

We (City of Washington) started using them about 18 months ago and they are a huge asset in terms of slowing traffic down. I'm not aware of any laws that would prevent emergency services from using them. We order ours from amazon and they very inexpensive.

    Good Afternoon,

Has anyone had any experience with portable speed bumps.  We cover US 421 and are looking at ways to further slow down traffic.  I have seen these used out of state.  Does anyone currently use these devices in N.C.?  Are there any laws that say we cannot deploy these portable speed bumps and possibility of damage liability.

    Thank You
